Painter and graphic artist

Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish painter and graphic artist who was born in 1577 and died in 1640. Rubens received a degree in humanities subjects in Cologne, and later took a painting education. Rubens was one of the leading painters in the Baroque of European painting in the 1600s. His paintings are by expressive movement, distinctive colours, soul and sensuality.

Expressive art in colour

Rubens’ paintings can also be found here. Here, too, his characteristics apply. On posters such as “The judge of Salomon”, previously exhibited at The National Gallery of Denmark, the motif can be described based on keywords such as dynamics and colour saturation. This poster contains an incredibly lively and colourful motif that is at the same time classic and atypical for it contemporary.
