Towards the big city

Andy Warhol (christened Andrew Warhola) was an American artist with a passion for drawings, paintings and advertising. Already at a young age, Warhol began to show a deep interest in art in a general sense. The first signs of that came when he applied as an advertising draftsman at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. In 1949, when he was 21, he headed for the vibrant New York City. Here he had a mission to create a name in the drawing and advertising industry. As a result of Warhol’s activity at various popular nightclubs around New York, he managed to create a name and image as a prosperous and important person. Throughout his life, Warhol was extremely open and comfortable with his marital status as a homosexual, which was unusual for his time. Just the fact that he was homosexual got him a lot of media coverage, which is why his popularity in the drawing and advertising industry began to increase.

From advertisements and drawings to art

As Warhol gained greater popularity in the drawing an advertising industry, he began to develop an interest in the arts to a greater extent. That is why in the ‘60s, he made paintings with motifs of famous American products – including Coca Cola and Campbell’s soup cans. As the years passed, Warhol also managed to distribute his artwork, and one of his paintings was sold in 1963 at an auction house for £ 47 million, which was twice the estimated value. His paintings, however, are not only available at auction houses, but can be purchased as posters here. At Permild & Rosengreen you will find both posters of Warhol’s colourful, expressive paintings, where repetition is the key word, and paintings with simpler and milder motifs. One of the most famous works of art by Warhol can be found here. It is the poste which goes by the name “ANDY WARHOL, LOUISIANA”. The poster is available with or without a frame, which can be bought in a variety of colours and types of wood.
