Recognized artist

Christen Købke was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1810. He was one of 11 children born to Peter Berend Købke and Cecilie Margrethe Petersen. At the age of 11, Købke got rheumatic fever, and therefore delighted himself in drawing and painting. This is also where he found out that his great passion was to paint and draw and that he wanted to be an artist. A year later, at the age of only 12, he decided to try his hand at his passion, so he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen. Soon after, Købke came to learn from the artist, C. W. Eckersberg, who had a big interest in nature. After a few years of studying at C. W. Eckersberg, Købke first received the small medal of the Academy of Fine Art and later also earned himself the big silver medal.
