Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present. Ib Andersen's (1907-1969) poster from 1943 must be said to be one of the most famous Tivoli posters. The colorful balloon seen against the evening sky, together with the garden trees in the silhouette, creates a romantic and festive atmosphere that is the epitome of Tivoli.
