Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present. The lines in the stage floor in Helge Refn's (1908-1985) poster from 1985 lead the audience's gaze to the Pantomime Theater's acrobatic Harlequin figure, which dances to the music, while the fireworks display explodes in the sky.
